Zombies of Mass Destruction (.84)
Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 5:20PM This movie is another film about zombies, but some of the dialog is pretty good. The acting is pretty decent, and the effects are really great. The opening scene is one of the best I've seen in a zombie movie, so that's a definite plus.
This movie's about an island town that gets plagued by the undead. One guy brings his boyfriend home to visit his mom, ready to come out as gay. There's an evangelical church on this tiny island, filled with religious nutjobs who think they can cure homosexuality by making gay men watch men going swimming in 1950s black-and-white film reels while injecting them with a ipecac-like vomit-inducing fluid. Anyway, there's a family of rednecks; there's an Iranian family that gets blamed for the zombie epidemic because, well, clearly, they're all terrorists; there's a super-religious mayor, and a super-liberal anti-gun woman running for mayor against him. Oh, and there's lots of xenophobia and all sorts of irrational fears that the townies have.
This is a satirical film about paranoia and all that. It was pretty good. But I still have such a hard time believing people out in the midwest actually think like this. I guess I need to get out more. (.84)
