The Magician (Criterion Collection) .69

Another Ingrid Bergman one to check off. This isn't that great, it's a black and white, slow, 19th century?, tale of a traveling group working with a magician. Most of Bergman's films give you a strong sense that there are weighty topics to be thought about; the Magician is supposed to delve into reason vs. mystery but this one is a little too light to make you really feel deep into it. It's paced appropriately, acted well, has good scenes, it's just all too weak and doesn't pull you in enough to be entertaining. Maybe good as a short story, not memorable as a film. (69)
