Hunter S. Thompson tale with Johnny Depp once again in the lead. This is a completely different animal from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and I get the feeling that a good deal of people are going to be walking into this movie expecting the same ride. This one is a lot more chill, subdued, and restrained. Unfortunately I think it's restraint also took some of the bite and edge out of the attack. There are moments of great lines and bared teeth that don't fit with the casual flow of the rest of the movie and the movie as a whole has a weak feel. I liked the time period and the subject matter for me personally, but it comes across as too realistic in a boring way at times it needs to be entertaining. Not great, good enough if you like the vibe. (.78)
