Durarara .84

I came across Durarara cause it had a headless chick who rides a motorcycle so that piqued my interest. There's a pile of stuff for Durarara- a video game, novels, anime, webcast. I've only come across the anime so far but it seems pretty cool. It's a well animated anime, no skimping on the art, that follows a large cast of characters in a very specific neighborhood of Ikebukuro. Every character has their own back story and current problems and everything overlaps and paths cross throughout the series. The main point of interest is a headless girl who is a dullahan, an irish grim reaper folk faerie- sometimes they pop up in castlevania as headless knights. She's lost her head and wears a cool motorcycle helmet and drives a suped up japanese cafe racer instead of being a headless irish spirit on a horse of death. There are cool visuals, not as many as their could be, and there are some cool characters, but not as many as their could be. They've made a real even mix of drama, horror, action, comedy, thriller, scifi... I'd complain that it is too even. You blend too many ingredients of anything together and it'll all get muddy. It's hard to nail down the vibe and if you are looking for anything I just mentioned you'll never get enough of it to satisfy ex. action? sure but not enough. Comedy? yes, but fleeting and weak. They made a supergroup of this anime, all the elements are there but put together the sum isn't as great as the parts. Better than most but the fact that it comes so close to being awesome but is missing that spark makes it a bit of a let down. It successfully makes you expect more from it than what it is. Still cool enough though. (.84)

I have to say that Durarara is a pretty good anime. I am VERY picky on good animes, like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Death Note. And I also say that Princess Princess is the WORST anime I have ever laid eyes on. Oh yeah, about Durarara, it is pretty good, nice plot, good setting. I gave it 4 out of 5
