El Shaddai (.98)
Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 5:27PM This is a pretty easy game to find it's niche audience. Do you love Okami but wish you could replace the Japanese mythology with early Mesopotamian/Hebrew mythos? This is the game for you, the end. Lot's of cell shading, lot's of creepy surreal visuals, all very transcendent. There's tons of platforming from all different angles, arcade button mashing, and awesome visuals and an awesome storyline. Aside from it's older sister Okami and a handful of rpgs like Xenogears or some Final Fantasy, rarely is there any real meat in the story of video games that hits at an intellectual level. I certainly would never have thought that the Book of Enoch (Enoch is Noah's great grandfather who ascended to heaven) would ever have been made into a video game but it came out perfect. I give the game even more credit for doing such an overtly religious title in a time period with so many fanatics. This is a step away from a Jesus first person shooter or a Mohammed mmorpg. I think it will be too ethereal and heady for most but this is a legit game that sets a high bar. The only reason I didn't give it a 100 is the visuals are so 2001 space odysee that it can be offputting in a platformer where you're making some detail oriented jumps. This game makes Jewish mythology fun. (.98)
