Monday, August 22, 2011 at 10:04AM Catherine is out from Atlus for PS3 and Xbox 360. Puzzle Game? Dating Game? There's a sort of reverse tetrisish gameplay where you stack and climb a tower of falling boxes in a nightmare dreamzone then during the awake mode you deal with a murder mystery and drink and hangout with your girlfriend. Depending on your behavior you get powerups for the dreamscape game mode. This is a niche game, very well thought out, very well put together. I personally don't enjoy the gameplay that much and the higher levels are too difficult, but the set up and story are amazing. This is one of the few games that fully respects it's audience. It's got a definite japanese edge, some anime visuals, a horror, Persona edge, and is targeted for an adult audience. Catherine stands out as a mature story with a completely unique story and feel you won't find elsewhere. The gameplay box stacking is well made and fits with the feel and psychology of the game but didn't blow me away, however the real test is if you play it long enough you will eventually have sheep men on a tower of boxes invading your dreams, which means the game is a success.
